Inis Oírr Asano

Inis Oírr Asano is a British violist based in London, working as a Hans Keller Chamber Fellow at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, alongside pursuing a Professional Diploma course at the Royal Academy of Music.

In 2022, Inis Oírr became the first Academy student to receive the Biddy Baxter & John Hosier Music Trust Scholarship, receiving financial support for her place on the one-year Intensive Master of Arts course at the Academy, subsequently graduating with the highest mark of the Postgraduate Strings and receiving a Regency Award and the Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Prize.

Whilst pursuing her Masters degree, she joined the Elmore Quartet in their Junior Fellowship at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she gave regular coachings to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. In 2023, the Quartet attended the final rounds of the Irene Steels-Wilsing Quartet Competition in Heidelberg, and the Royal Over-Seas League Competition in London.

 

Alongside her love for chamber music, Inis Oírr is a keen orchestral player. She regularly plays with the Glyndebourne Tour Orchestra, London Mozart Players and pioneering unconducted string ensemble, 12 Ensemble. She was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra from 2019 until she could no longer join due to Brexit.

 

Inis Oírr is currently studying under Martin Outram, Yuko Inoue and Paul Silverthorne at the Royal Academy of Music (London). She plays on a lovely 2010 instrument by Manchester-based maker, Helen Michetschläger.
